Hosting News Hosting.com Clients Experience No Downtime as Louisville, KY is Paralyzed by Record Snow and Ice Storm 2009-02-09
Hosting.com’s flagship data center in Louisville KY remains operational during the worst winter ice storm in Louisville history.
February 9, 2009 - (Louisville, KY) Hosting.com, the first name in global hosting solutions and services, and its clients experienced no downtime during the worst winter ice storm in Louisville, KY history. The ice storm that began on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 and continued through the week caused up to 700,000 homes and businesses throughout the state to lose power for up to 10 days and longer.
The ice storm prompted local and statewide governments to call upon the states full 4,600 person National Guard to assist with recovery operations – marking the first time in the state’s history the entire Guard was called to action. City, State and National governments declared the state of Kentucky a Natural Disaster – 90 of Kentucky’s 120 counties were declared emergencies.
Hosting.com provided 100% uptime to its clients spanning the globe during and after the storm. This marked the second time within the last five months that severe weather conditions crippled Louisville businesses. Only a few months earlier on September 14th, 2008 Louisville experienced winds as high as 75 mph resulting from Hurricane Ike. In both cases, Louisville-area businesses were without power for up to 10 days.
“We’re pleased that our facilities and disaster recovery plans stood up against both storms. I’m personally proud that our Louisville-based employees - many without power in their own homes for days – showed great commitment to providing the highest levels of service and support to our clients amidst two disastrous events. Our clients are guaranteed 100% uptime and over the past five months our Louisville facilities and employees have illustrated why we stand by that promise.” stated Hosting.com CEO, Darren King.
During September's harsh weather, Hosting.com’s data center in downtown Louisville lost commercial power, but our disaster recovery and business continuance plan was engaged and power systems performed flawlessly without a second of downtime
This caused Chuck Burke, CTO of MetroMojo (a Hosting.com client), to comment “I think that data center is nuclear bomb proof!”
