HOTSPOT WLANs to Support Nikon Media Port UP Headset
2008-12-18
December 17, 2008 TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that its HOTSPOT™ wireless local area network (WLAN) service will support the Media Port UP, an advanced headset for multimedia playback and Internet connection, which Nikon Corporation will release on December 19.

Customers of HOTSPOT, OPEN Plan, OPEN Plan Light and 1DAY PASSPORT services will be able to use the headset to establish WLAN access simply by selecting an icon on the devices built-in display.

Most HOTSPOT access points will support the Media Port UP, except Tokyo Midtown, AirportNet roaming points in Narita International Airport, BB Mobile Point domestic roaming points and Global roaming points.

Media Port UP will come preinstalled with ESS-ID and security key software, so HOTSPOT configuration will be automatic. Users will simply need to register their HOTSPOT ID and password one time via a PC.

As a campaign upon the release of the Media Port UP, customers who purchase the Media Port UP 300x or the Media Port UP 300 with IR Remote Controller from the Media Port UP online store (www.upstore.jp) between December 19, 2008 and January 31, 2009 will receive a special private code to activate free HOTSPOT access for 186 days from the time of initial login. For details, see www.upstore.jp/ (Japanese).

Going forward, NTT Com expects to form additional partnerships with other device makers to expand access to its HOTSPOT WLAN service.
