Parallels Certifies Computacenter as Gold Partner

Computacenter offers Parallels Virtuozzo Containers to meet high density and
performance server virtualisation needs
London, UK ? 22nd September, 2008 ? Virtualisation and automation
specialist Parallels today announced that Computacenter, the leading European
independent provider of IT infrastructure services, is offering enterprise
customers its server virtualisation tool, Parallels Virtuozzo Containers. The
product gives users greater utilisation from their server hardware by creating
virtual servers or "containers" so multiple isolated workloads can run
simultaneously. Parallels Virtuozzo Containers sits on the operating system (OS)
level, rather than directly on top of the hardware, resulting in higher density
and performance levels than other server virtualisation products on the market.
Paul Casey, Datacentre and Storage Virtualisation Technology Leader,
Computacenter stated, "We?ve added Parallels Virtuozzo Containers to our
virtualisation portfolio because we want to be able to offer our customers the
best solution to meet their specific needs. For Computacenter this significantly
increases the virtualisation opportunity, not just from a product but also a
services perspective. In some cases, such as with high performance applications,
other server virtualisation solutions based on hypervisor technology will not be
suitable due to the application performance degradations incurred when you
virtualise on the hardware level. In contrast, you can put these workloads into
a Parallels environment and you know they will just perform."
Likewise, Parallels Virtuozzo Containers offers three times the density of other
server virtualisation solutions, and this makes it a far more cost-effective
approach to adopting a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), adds Casey. "We are
really excited about the revenue opportunities that Parallels Virtuozzo
Containers will create. We?ve been selling hypervisor technology for a while,
but this gives us another string to our bow. Parallels are offering healthy
margins, but for us the big benefit is in the services engagements this
technology will enable. To date people have used virtualisation in pockets of
the organisation, however it has not been deployed across the datacentre. With
Parallels added to our virtualisation portfolio we can now start to look at
optimising the entire data centre including the infrastructure being used for
business critical applications. For us this means much larger services
engagements around things like consolidation or virtual desktop infrastructure
projects."
