Hosting News Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme Now Available with HP Z800 Workstations for Near-Native Performance of Resource-Intensive Applications 2009-06-02
HP offers first pre-configured Virtual Workstation
Renton, WA — June 1st, 2009 — Parallels announced today that it has
expanded its relationship with HP to include an offering that combines the HP
Z800 Workstation, which is based on the Intel® Xeon® 5500 series processor, with
Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme and select NVIDIA SLI Multi-OS enabled Quadro
FX graphics cards. The combined products will be available as a
configure-to-order solution via standard HP Workstation channels and will be
supported by both HP and Parallels.
Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme is the first high-end workstation
virtualization solution to offer users near-native performance for
resource-intensive applications. The product leverages key virtualization
technologies from Intel, including VT-x for accelerated virtual CPU performance,
VT-d for direct high performance NVIDIA Quadro FX graphics card and NIC
assignment, and Extended Page Tables (EPT) for improved performance in memory
management.
By offering the solution on pre-configured and validated workstations, HP and
Parallels enable enterprises around the world to derive value from the
exceptional performance of the HP Z800 Workstation and increased productivity
through driving multiple workloads. When compared to running multiple older
workstations, this new virtual workstation offering provides for a compelling
return on investment.
"After several years of deep technical engineering collaboration by HP, Intel,
NVIDIA and Parallels, the vision of delivering virtual workstations to the
market is now a reality," said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels. "Technical
workstation users, from graphic designers to engineers in multiple disciplines
around the world, can now leverage HP’s experience in delivering technically
elegant solutions and robust services to support the deployment of Parallels
Workstation 4.0 Extreme in their enterprise. At the same time, they can continue
to count on Parallels to deliver new enhancements and innovations, such as
adding support for Intel’s EPT technology, to even further blur the line between
physical and virtual workstations."
"With the release of Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme, virtualization
technologies are beginning to make a real impact on productivity and how users
employ powerful workstations to create and visualize results," said Boyd Davis,
Intel General Manager, Workstation Product Group. "Parallels Workstation Extreme
and the HP Z800, based on the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series, use Intel®
Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O to enable users to take full
advantage of their digital workbench. These desk-side supercomputers can help
engineers, animators, and other digital creators develop, test, simulate, and
modify their ideas faster than ever before."
Availability and Pricing
The HP Z800 Workstation with NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800s and Parallels Workstation
4.0 Extreme is available now, and is expected to be available with the Quadro FX
4800s and FX 5800s next month. A typical HP Z800 Workstation configuration would
include dual Intel Xeon processors, dual NVIDIA Quadro FX graphics cards, and
appropriate RAM to support the various customer workloads across the host and
guest operating systems. One year of support and maintenance for Parallels
Workstation 4.0 Extreme is included with the product.
"Parallels is making workstation virtualization available for customers working
in these environments, and the solution is only offered on an HP Workstation,"
said Jeff Wood, worldwide director of marketing, Workstations, HP. "The
combination of these technologies built on our most powerful and expandable HP
Z800 Workstation allows customers to dedicate system resources as needed and
gain greater productivity across multiple operating systems and workloads."
