Hosting News Scripps Newspapers Select Caspio's Platform-as-a-Service for their Web Sites 2008-03-11
Journalists will create unique community databases and hyper-local
applications using the Caspio Bridge no-programming framework.
Mountain View, Calif. — March 11, 2008 — Caspio, Inc. (www.caspio.com),
provider of the leading on-demand platform for web applications, today announced
a customer relationship with The E.W. Scripps Company (www.scripps.com),
publisher of daily and community newspapers in 15 markets. The newspapers will
use Caspio's no-programming platform-as-a-service to produce localized and
interactive experiences across their news sites, including the Rocky Mountain
News in Denver, the Commercial Appeal in Memphis, the Knoxville (Tenn.) News
Sentinel and the Ventura County (Calif.) Star.
"Scripps' journalists and website leaders want the best tools and methods to
make public records and other community databases easily available on our
newspaper and niche sites," said Jay Small, general manager of Scripps'
Newspapers Interactive Group. "We believe Caspio Bridge gives us a fast,
efficient way to move that data online in searchable formats our web visitors
can use with ease."
"I can think of more than a few local data sets that would be interesting to
deploy: crime statistics, nursing home inspections, school test scores," Small
said. "But we are most excited to put Caspio Bridge tools in the hands of our
news organizations to see what new ideas they bring into service."
"We are very excited about our relationship with Scripps and look forward to
working closely with their teams," said Caspio founder and CEO, Frank Zamani. "Caspio
continues to gain the trust of leading companies and thousands of new Caspio-powered
applications go online every week."
Caspio Bridge helps media companies easily deploy scalable online database
applications fast and without any programming or software to install. Leading
publishers including Cox Newspapers, Lee Enterprises, The New York Times
Regional Media Group, and Media General have all standardized on Caspio Bridge
to dramatically boost page views and advertising revenue by implementing
interactive databases on their web sites. Today Caspio powers web applications
for hundreds of media sites and over half of the top 100 American newspapers.
Caspio has offered the Caspio Bridge hosted service since 2001, with over
150,000 web applications built to date.
